When What you want feels impossible

Have you ever wanted something so deeply, but ended up convincing yourself that it probably won't happen? So, you downplay it, spiritualize it, and tell yourself, “I’m fine.”
But deep down, you are overwhelmed by the size of the dream inside of you. You feel that the gap between where you are and where you want to be is too great. Just thinking about the possibility of trying and failing unlocks a fear inside of you that you didn't know existed.
Instead of pursuing it fully, you protect yourself by relying on yourself. You shrink the dream to a "manageable" size in order to avoid the risk. And if we’re honest, sometimes the reason we call something “impossible” isn’t because it is, but it’s because we are afraid to hope. I have been there more times than I care to admit.
We don’t say it out loud, but many of us operate like this old saying: “If it's to be, it’s up to me.” So, we strive, plan, calculate, and try to control. And when things do go according to our plan, we conclude: “It must not be for me.”
But Scripture reminds us in John 15:5," I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
We can do nothing apart from our Saviour! We can't build the business, heal the relationship, or even become the woman God is shaping us to be.
Self-reliance feels strong, but it is heavy burden. Because if everything hinges on you, then so is the pressure. And that pressure will either exhaust you or cause you to quit before you start.
Many times, overwhelm is not about time or resources, but it's fear of failure. “What if I give it my all and it still doesn’t work?” Disappointment stings. Trying again after failure requires vulnerability, so we protect ourselves by labeling the dream “unrealistic.” But, what if the impossibility you feel isn’t a stop sign; what if it’s an invitation?
In Matthew 19:26, Jesus said, "with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
Notice Jesus doesn’t deny the impossibility, instead he changes the source. With man — impossible. With God — possible. The problem isn’t that the dream is too big, it’s that we’re trying to carry it alone!
We serve a God who:
Parts seas.
Restores marriages.
Provides in the wilderness.
Opens doors no one can shut.
He is not limited by your résumé. He is not intimidated by your lack of resources. He is not surprised by your past mistakes. The question is not, “Can God do it?” The question is, “Am I surrendered enough to let Him?” What feels impossible is actually misaligned. The following scriptures are good reminders of just how much God loves us and wants to help us.
Psalm 84:11," No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly."
Psalm 37:4," Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the Desires of your heart."
When we delight ourselves in the Lord, our desires begin to line up with His. Not every desire is God-ordained. Some of what we chase is rooted in comparison, insecurity, or proving something to someone else.
Before we call something impossible, we should ask ourselves:
Is this aligned with who God is forming me to be?
Is this rooted in obedience or ego?
Am I pursuing this with God… or independently of Him?
Self-reliance says: “I have to make this happen.” Faith says, "God, if this is from You; You will make a way.” Reliance doesn’t mean passivity, it means partnership. It means you move, but you pray. You plan, but you surrender. You act, but you trust. Because apart from Him, we can do nothing! But with Him? Nothing is impossible. Nothing is wasted. Nothing is beyond redemption.
Perhaps the thing you’ve labeled impossible is simply too heavy to carry alone. So instead of shrinking the dream, bring it to God. Align your heart, release control and move in faith.
Because the God we serve is not limited by what looks impossible.
